Welcome to our Quarterly Newsletter!
Activities in the period can be summarized as follows:
New Members
We are now 211 strong! We realise many of you have joined since the official launch in June. Recording of the Launch event stating the group’s objectives and focus can now be found on our website. You are also welcome to contact the team for queries and/or further information. Volunteering for activities and signing up to events is through the website, Participation in polls and opinion gathering will be circulated to members via email.
ADM Annual Conference
We are pleased to announce that preparation for the ADM’s first annual conference is underway! We are planning to run the event in April 2021.
Member consultation is currently being help to help us ensure this is a worthwhile, interesting, and meaningful event with widespread participation. Expressions of interest to present can be logged on the events page of this website.
BSI is updating BS 7004:2013 Design management systems
Update of BS 7000-4 is underway, and a core group of participants are working closely with BSi to provide and channel feedback and recommendations for improvement for the update. British Standards get updates approximately every five years, so it’s a great opportunity to express your opinion ideas and suggestions. Member consultation will be run in January 2021. |
Design Management Code of Practice
Work on this initiative continues. BSi support on this initiative and intention to formulate a Kitemark accreditation is on-going. The first draft is due to be completed by end of Q2 2021. The Code of Practice is to complement the updated British Standard. The Standard will continue to provide guidance and recommendation on specific activities related to the management of design, while the Code of Practice will address awareness and workflows that thread through, define and strengthen management of design through all design stages. Updates on progress will continue to be published here. Consultation with registered members will be via email.
Collaboration with GIRI Design Guide
Further to general consultation run around the Design Guide earlier this year, the GIRI team are working on an update taking into account comments and insights received from GIRI and ADM members. Look out for updates in 2021! For current version of the guide please visit: https://getitright.uk.com/reports/guide-to-improving-value-by-reducing-design-error

UK-wide Design Management Training
Several initiatives and training programmes have become known to us and we are reviewing and collating this information to add it to the website to enable dissemination of these opportunities. The training team are also looking at apprenticeships which were approved by the government last year.
|
Resources on the website
We are currently looking for volunteers to help identify and upload useful resources on to the website platform. This will include relevant articles, publications, podcasts, webinars and other resources.
|
Membership Benefits
We would like to clarify to new members that have joined after the launch event, that membership of the ADM is currently free, non-regulatory, is not an accreditation and should not be presented or used at such with clients, on websites or other. Membership provides you direct access to information on management of design and enables you to participate, have a say, keep updated and be involved in furthering the thinking and definition of Management of Design as a function that crosses many roles in the construction industry in the UK. The team are looking to further refine and diversify membership benefits as well as provide a clearer vision for the future of the ADM. Consultation and polls capturing your views and opinions will follow very soon!
